Word documents can contain myriads of special formattings like embedded objects, bookmarks or tracked changes, that Trados pertinaciously refuses to recognize and process properly.
1) For Trados until version SDL Trados 2007 users, the best solution is to activate the option TRADOStagXML workflow for Workbench RTF files / TRADOStagXML workflow for Word.doc files at Options >Translation Memory Options >Tools in the section General Options and process the files in TagEditor.
2) SDL Trados Studio 2009 users should save intractable files manually in other formats like RTF, TXT or HTML and proceed processing them in the changed format. Upon completion and export the target files must of course be saved back to the original format.
